Sony picks security firms for cleanup

ONLINE HACKER VICTIM Sony has called in three security firms as it seeks to clean up the mess left by its recent hack attacks.

According to reports at Reuters, Sony has called up Protiviti, Guidance Software and Data Forte as its forensic clean up and network insecurity investigation team.

Reassuring news, perhaps, but it does make one wonder whether the current security team at Sony consists of one bloke and a newspaper with a slit in it.

The Sony hack attack, which might have stolen the personal details of almost 100 million people, turned the Playstation Network on its back, tickled its soft underbelly and rifled its pockets. Sony has been criticised for being slow to react, slack in its protection measures and short on information, and athough the entry of the three musketeers might be overdue, it is welcome.

Sony expects to bring the gaming service back online later this week, over two weeks since the problems started and in the same week that it shut down its SOE entertainment services.

If it takes much longer than that, the Japanese electronics, gaming and entertainment giant might as well take things right back to the drawing board and start with the security element.
